Due to a shortage of an aroma chemical called citral, we will be temporarily reformulating some of our fragrance oils.
What you need to know about the recent citral shortage.
On Oct. 31st, the production unit of a citral manufacturer caught on fire. There were no injuries but the factory was badly damaged. It will take several months to repair it before they can resume production.
This manufacturer is a large supplier for the fragrance industry and citral is an essential component in certain scents. It smells like lemon, so it adds brightness to aroma blends.
We have a plan in place to address this situation.
Our Plan of Action
As reformulated fragrances come in, our research and development department will begin thoroughly testing them in cold process soap. We will continue to keep you informed every step of the way.
Thorough testing of reformulated fragrances in cold process soap.
Updated product pages with testing notes from new formulation.
Consistently updated list of fragrances that have been reformulated.
So, which fragrances will be affected?
As the reformulated fragrances begin to come in and have gone through testing, we will maintain a list you can refer to. However, there are a number of fragrances that will not be affected by this shortage - just make sure to read the product descriptions to see if there is a difference in performance.
We also have a sniffy sample program so you can smell the reformulations before purchasing a full size. Sniffy samples are an absorbent cotton strip dipped in the scent and sealed in a plastic bag. To get those, send a self-addressed stamped envelope with the scent you want to try written on a note inside. You'll need to send an envelope for each scent you want to try so the scents don't mix together.
